Gameplay

In EVE: The Second Genesis two or more players take on the role of CEO of an interstellar company and try Starbase its competitors in order to destroy it. Through some special cards, the player also open up alternative victory conditions.

The cards represent the next Starbase also other elements such as space regions, asteroids, moons, planets, spaceships, plants in the Starbase and news. Some of these cards generate an income in ISK ( game currency) which is saved or equal to output in order to bring other cards into play.

Especially space regions, asteroids, moons and planets move during the game control from one player to the other bonuses and Mali respectively the controlling player available and not the actual owner of the card. Results, together with the special commands for spacecraft such as ambush or patrol it a very versatile and strategic gameplay and offers especially when self - assemble decks of many possibilities.

Rarity

Cards exist in four groups rarity: Regions (English Region) usually (English Common), unusual (English Uncommon) and rare (English Rare). Regions and rare cards have a rarity of 1:15, unusual cards one of 1:5 and a 2:3 ordinary.

Each card also exists as a so-called ' Foil ' card ( officially ' Premium Card ') which is found only in the booster packs. The probability to obtain a Foil card is at 1:30 and the distribution between the groups of the same rarity distribution follows as with regular cards.

Editions

Currently, only one exists Edition. A first extension is under development. Planned are two extensions per year.

  • Core Set (2006 ): Contains 240 cards and provides a balanced selection for all four races in EVE.
  • The Exiled (2007). Contains 160 cards and was released on 29 August 2007 The theme of the expansion includes pirates, CONCORD ( the space police in EVE) and the struggle for ' Outer Regional '.

Sale

We sold the game by various local stores or online stores. The choice was this:

  • The two starter decks, each with two fixed assembled decks of 55 cards
  • The booster packs of 15 cards
  • The booster displays of 24 Booster Packs

The starter decks are interesting especially for beginners, as they provide for relatively little money ( compared to other card games ) an even game. But for owners of larger -volume card they can still be attractive because they contain a complete set of otherwise rather rare regions and star bases and also a good number of so-called bread and butter cards (not overly powerful but still useful enough to be used in most deck) include.

All versions are no longer sold.

Card Types

The game includes six different types of cards. As the game currently exists in English only, the original terms are used here for simplicity.

  • Star Base - This is the most important card of the game: If the starbase destroyed, the player has lost. Each starbase also represents a space region and has three attributes: shield strength, income per round and the number of locations that can be played in this space region. Each starbase can be upgraded throughout the game once. This changes their attributes and she gets a special ability.
  • Outer Region - An outer space region offers the player who controls it, additional income and access to a special ability. Certain venues can be played only in the outer regions.
  • Location - Each location produces a certain basic income for the player who controls the region in which the location is located. In addition, some locations have a value minerals or have a special impact on the region or even the whole game.
  • Star Base Structure - Each starbase can be improved with additional equipment and modified. These systems change the shield strength or the income of the starbase and provide access to specialized skills.
  • Starship - space ships make up the bulk of most traditional decks. Conquered and occupied them with the player space regions, builds minerals of locations from for additional income and fights other ships and star bases. Each ship has a shield strength and attack power. Many of them have special abilities or commands with which to continue the game can be influenced.
  • News - The only card that can be played during the turn of another player, this type of card falls to a specific meaning. The effect of news is immediate and can last several rounds under certain circumstances.

Income

In each round, the player receives an income in the game currency ISK. This he can spend again the same train to cards to bring into play or save all or part of to afford a greater investment in the following trains.

Income is obtained primarily through the control of regions and located therein venues and the reduction of the minerals and the trade with the help of special commands. Furthermore, different cards have special abilities can generate further income.

Regions

Regions are an important strategic element of EVE. Thus they can be (along with their skills and those of their locations ) conquered but lost them again given special attention.

Specifically, they are as they are introduced into the game in the way. Instead they like to mix the remaining cards to the Deck, they form a separate pile from where they can be played selectively.

Commands

Many ships are equipped with commands which, when activated, allow the spaceship special features. Each command also has a commando force which says how well the spacecraft in that function.

  • Ambush - The ship is ambushed. If the region in which the ship is attacked it can cause to the attacking fleet before the actual battle damage.
  • Haul - The ship supports allied ships in the breakdown of minerals in this region.
  • Mining - The ship building minerals from one location, thus generating additional income.
  • Patrol - The ship patrols in the region and can force attacking ships to attack the patrol ship instead of another.
  • Trade - The ship is with fictional other vessels, thereby generating additional income.

Player Community

Especially on EVE: The Second Genesis is known by CCP Games good integration of the player community. On the official website suggestions for new maps or concepts could be submitted and discussed on existing rules, maps and mechanisms.

Play online

A few players even worked to develop a computer program to the EVE: The Second Genesis would be played over the Internet. For some time a fan - patch of the online game over a relatively generic program called OCTGN exists allowed. This could be obtained along with a brief guide on the official site.
