Evered Poole

William Henry Evered Poole CB, CBE, DSO (born 8 October 1902 in Caledon, South Africa, † March 9, 1969 in Bellville, South Africa) was a South African military and ambassadors.

Life

William Henry Evered Poole studied at St. Andrew 's College (South Africa) in Grahamstown, at the Diocesan College Rondebosch. In 1921 he joined the Union of South Africa Army. After training at the South African Military College, he was a professional soldier in 1923. In 1934, he received the command of the Special Service Battalion. In 1935, he was seconded to the Brigade of Guards and moved to England in a maneuver. In 1939 he was commander of the South African Military College. In 1940 he became an officer in the General Staff. From June 1941 to 1942 he had command of the 2nd Infantry Brigade ( South Africa). This was used at this time in Marsa Matruh and on the Gazala line during the company's Theseus. From 1943 to 1945 he was a Major General of the 6th Armoured Division (South Africa) in North Africa and Italy. In 1948, he headed the South African military mission in Berlin. In 1949 he was Minister for plénipotentiaire in Rome. In 1950 he headed next to the South African Union Mission in Cologne- Riehl. In 1951, he headed the mission in Cairo. In 1952, he headed the mission in Buenos Aires and was also accredited to the government of Carlos Ibáñez del Campo in Santiago de Chile. From 1961 to 1963 he was ambassador in Athens. In 1963 he was forced to retire.
