Evergestis fulgura

Evergestis Fulgura is a butterfly of the family of Crambiden ( Crambidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of about 38 mm. Head and thorax are earth-brown, the abdomen is pale. The fore wings are rather long and narrow. You have a warm earth-brown ground color and are mottled dark. The Costalrand is nearly straight, the apex is rounded. The wing outer edge extends at an angle, the wing inner edge is slightly curved at the base. The Subbasallinie is indicated by three diagonally arranged dark spots which are outside margins thin white. The median ante - and post- median lines are clearly visible. They are white and are oblique. The former is outside margins black, the latter inside. The Ante median line is strongly angled below the cell and has a strong tooth. The Postmedia line is S- shaped and serrated. The Subterminallinie is only weakly indicated. The area between it and the wing outer edge is gray-brown with a slight purple tinge. The Diskalfleck is dark and round. The outer edge is provided between the wing veins with a series of dark lines. The fringe scales are whitish, spotted outside and provided with a dark Subbasallinie. The hind wings are gray-white and have a serrated Postmedia line. The fringe scales are white and have a dark Subbasallinie. The wing undersides are coated light gray dark ocher and especially on the forewing. On the front wing underside there is a little darker Diskalfleck. Front and rear wing underside marked with a distinctly toothed Postmedia line.

In the male the uncus is slim and has a blunt tip. It is sparsely equipped with rear-facing bristles. The Gnathos is dagger- shaped and has twice the diameter of Uncusschafts. The Valven have a broad base, tapering only slightly. The tip is cut round and weak. A clamp member ( CLASPER ) is not formed. The distal part of the phallus is provided with a group of small Cornuti and paired brush-like pillows.

The genital armature of females has not been described.

Dissemination

Evergestis Fulgura is common in Morocco.

Biology

The preimaginal stages are unknown. In the Middle Atlas moths were caught in August and in the Moroccan province of Meknes in October.
