Everything but the Girl was a British pop duo, consisting of Tracey Thorn ( born September 26, 1962 in Brookmans Park, England ) and Ben Watt ( born December 6, 1962 in London, England). She had her biggest international hit the mid-1990s with the single Missing.

History

After Ben Watts had recorded in 1982 on an ad on the bulletin board at the University of Hull contact Tracey Thornmen, they formed the duo Everything but the Girl. The two were both professionally and privately a couple. The band name they took the advertising slogan " We sell everything for the bedroom - to a woman! " Of a local furniture store. In early 1983, the duo had made ​​his first appearance at London's Institute of Contemporary Music.

Their first hit single was a year later, Each and Every One. For many years, the duo an insider tip. In the years 1992 and 1993 had to Everything but the Girl forced Pausing, as Ben Watt was seriously ill at the Churg -Strauss syndrome. In 1994 they released their album Amplified Heart. By Todd Terry remix of the single Missing, which had reached only number 68 on the British charts in the original, they gained worldwide attention. The following singles Wrong and Walking Wounded were successes. In the following years, Everything but the Girl released several studio and remix albums.

In 2005 they released their latest album Adapt or Die - 10 Years of Remix, after which the band withdrew.
