Export Control Classification Number

The Export Control Classification Number ( ECCN short ) is an alphanumeric identifier for export goods with U.S. American origin.

The ECCN is used within the U.S. Commerce Control List (CCL ) of the Bureau of Industry and Security, to identify goods that are subject to U.S. export control laws. The ECCN is i.d.R. 5 digits and begins with a digit between 0 and 9 ( category), followed by one of five letters from A to E ( product group, genus ). This is followed by 3 digits close to ( identifier ), eg 3A001. If necessary. the identification is divided into product- specific nor by letter and a number on, for example 3A001.b.4.b or 3A001.b.8.

The ECCN normally corresponds to the German Export List number as the categories 1-9 are from the Wassenaar Arrangement. However, the Commerce Control List contains more goods than the German Export List.

On the basis of the identification number and the provisions of the CCL can decide which products are made for certain countries under U.S. law, export licensing requirements exporter, ie subject to U.S. Reexportkontrolle.
