Extra EA-300

The Extra 300 is a sport and aerobatic airplane. It was developed as a high performance aircraft for the aerobatic competition and is one of the few aircraft, in the Unlimited category is competitive today. Built it from the Extra Aircraft LLC by the extra aircraft production and distribution GmbH on airfield Schwarze Heide in Hunxe, Germany. Designer is the German Walter Extra, himself a former aerobatics pilot, who founded the company and its owner and manager, was until they ran into financial problems and was taken over by other investors.

The Extra 300 was first introduced in 1988 and has since been produced in many different designs, both single seater and two-seater. The main difference to their predecessors Extra 230 and Extra 260 were built of fiber composite materials instead of wood wings and the greater Lycoming AEIO -540 engine. The first flight of D- EAEW with Walter Extra on board was on May 6, 1988, beginning of 1991, received the machine its type certification. The original version has a symmetrical profile and zero-degree entry angle and is therefore designed for aerobatics. For the Red Bull Air Race version 300SR was ( and thus a narrower curve radius) developed with a modified asymmetric airfoil with increased buoyancy.

Generally

The Extra 300 is a high performance aircraft for aerobatics. Many pilots take part in sporting competitions with it. They are available both as single-seat design as the 300S ( with a shorter wingspan and first flight on March 5, 1992) and the 300SR, as well as two-seater like the Extra 300L ( with lowered wings ) and 300LP. It was developed as a sports aircraft for competition aerobatics. The Extra 200 is one from 2005 presented with a weaker version 147 kW engine, the Extra 300SC one on aerobatics further optimized version. Since 2008, there with the Extra 300 / L and Extra 330SC two versions with the more powerful Textron Lycoming AEIO -580 -EXP engine with 242 kW of power. Today aerobatic teams fly like the 2 Excel Aviation Ltd or the Royal Jordanian Falcons with it. Designed and developed the EA300 was the designer Walter Extra, the machine will be built at the airfield Schwarze Heide Dinslaken, North Rhine -Westphalia. The first flight took place on 4 May 1992.
