Extreme skiing

Extreme skiing is skiing in extremely steep or rough terrain. An extreme skier descends usually up to the summit of a mountain on or flying by helicopter to the mountain, and then leaves through deep snow fields and ice grooves ( couloirs ). He must overcome and avoid boulders and vegetation may jumps over rocks, cornices, overhangs and almost vertical slopes.

The extreme skier moves away from the marked and patrolled ski slopes in the alpine area. There he can be buried by avalanches, with falls bouncing on rocks, crash over unsecured rock ledges or in inaccessible for the mountain rescue services seriously hurt. Therefore extreme skier wearing a helmet and protective gear. In this discipline there are competitions where the point ratings, inter alia, are given to the difficulty of the chosen route.

In the European Alps, especially places like Chamonix, La Grave and Alagna is connected to the extreme skiing.
