Eyal Berkovic

Eyal Berkovic (Hebrew ' אייל ברקוביץ; born April 2, 1972 in Haifa, also Berkovich ) is a former Israeli football player and current coach.

Career

Berkovic began his career in 1989 at Maccabi Haifa where he already played in the youth. With the team he won two championships and three times the Israeli State Cup, the national cup. He was first appointed to the national team in 1992. For the 1993/94 season, he received thanks to its outstanding performance, the award as player of the year.

In 1996 he moved to the Premier League for Southampton FC. After a successful year, he was recruited by West Ham United. After two years in London he moved for 5.75 million pounds to Glasgow at Celtic. However, after John Barnes, who had signed him, was replaced by Martin O'Neill, Berkovic sat more on the bench and was loaned in 2001 to the Blackburn Rovers. At the end of the season he moved to the second English League Manchester City, with which he became in the first year. 2002/ 03 was chosen Berkovic player of the season at Manchester City. When he docked in the season 2003/ 04 with the coach Kevin Keegan, he was transferred at the end of the season for Portsmouth. After only one year and renewed problems with the coach, he went back to Israel for Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Berkovic played 82 times for the Israeli national team, scoring 14 goals.

On 7 May 2006 he announced end of his career. In the summer of 2006 he was engaged as manager of Maccabi Netanya.

Berkovic is married and has two children.
