EZ-Link

The EZ -link card is a contactless rechargeable smart card that is used as a ticket on the subway (MRT ) and bus system in Singapore.

Survey

She released mid-2002 from the magnetic memory cards since they are no longer the increased data storage and information needs for the advanced transport network nachkam. Among other things, in buses, the MRT, LRT and also be used for payments in shops (eg in many McDonald's ). The card is anonymous, that is, when buying no disclosure is required. An exception is the personalized card. However, all EZ -link cards have a unique serial number for identification, which allows tracking of the distance traveled, but also used as an access card. The name "EZ -link" is in English as "easy link" ( German: comfortable connection) pronounced. On 1 October 2009 the old EZ -link card has been replaced by a new CEPAS -EZ -link card. CEPAS stands for the Singapore Standard " Contactless ePurse Applications". Old EZ -link cards could be exchanged between 9 January and 30 September 2009.

Use

It is enough to come up with the map in the vicinity of a few centimeters of the reader. The charge works even by ordinary materials, such as leather or cotton, so that most users will roam their purses, handbags, backpacks or jackets over the card reader. The debiting of the credit takes only 0.3 seconds. If several cards are, for example, in your wallet, the card reader can not function properly because the cards interfere with each other. As a remedy, the card must be kept singly via the card reader.

The card can be recharged at stops on special machines and the last withdrawals are tracked. The sale is at service counters ( available in every subway station ), 7 -Eleven stores and post offices. The purchase price is a starting balance and a card fee of 5 SGD, which will not be refunded upon return.

Benefits

It is no longer necessary to have enough pockets for hand or constantly buying tickets. In addition, the fare dodging is quasie impossible because in all MRT / LRT stations barriers need to be overcome, and must generally be boarded on buses only on the driver's door. In addition, the population is strongly in favor sensibiliert such offenses such as fare dodging to be reported immediately to the security personnel.

MRT / LRT

In the MRT / LRT network ( Mass Rapid Transit / Light Rail Transit ), the passage rate increased through the turnstiles of 25 passengers to 40 passengers at the same time.

Buses

By using the EZ -link card can store up to 20 passengers per minute boarding a bus, compared to 12 passengers in cash or 15 passengers in the use of the old magnetic ticket. This reduces as a consequence the lifetime of the buses at stops.

Technology

The EZ -link card has the dimensions of an ordinary credit card according to ISO / IEC 7816th The surface is made of PET, which has a negligible impact on the environment by waste incineration. The tamper-resistant RFID chip and antenna are safely protected inside the map. The data link is effected by means of radio waves at an interval of up to 10 cm. There is no battery in the card, the energy for the operation of the RFID chip is transmitted by electromagnetic waves from the card reader. The map, as well as the card reader, provide a safe, fast and reliable data connection. The strong encryption technology prevents eavesdropping and the fraudulent use and thus helps a high level of data security of the system to ensure.

The same technique is still used for the following cards:

  • Atlanta Breeze Card since 2006
  • Hong Kong: Octopus card for the MTR and retail since 1997
  • Kaohsiung: Easy Card for MRI
  • London: Oyster Card since 2003
  • Taipei Easy Card for MRI
  • Greater Tokyo Area Super Urban Intelligent Card ( Suica ) since 2001
