Facit

Facit AB was a Swedish office equipment manufacturer. Based in Åtvidaberg company existed 1922-1998.

History

The company was founded in 1922 under the name AB Åtvidabergs Industrier. In the following years, the company made as manufacturers of calculators a name that have been sold under the name Facit. In 1956, the company gave the name Facit AB. In the following years the business grew, so that by 1970 the number of employees rose to 14,000. However, after came cheaper computing machines from Japan in the early 1970s on the market, the business of Facit fell off rapidly and the company was acquired in 1973 by Electrolux. 1983 began Ericsson Facit AB and tried microcomputer to sell under the brand name. Short term success, the experiment had to be discontinued in 1988. In the following years, the company was split up in 1998 and finally ceased.
