Fairchild PT-19

The Fairchild PT -19 was a monoplane, which was used mainly for training. It was used in the USAAC, RAF and RCAF during the Second World War. It was a counter-proposal to the Boeing - Stearman PT- 17th

History and construction

The PT -19 arose from the development version Fairchild M- 62. The aircraft was ordered by the USAAC in 1940. The first series comprised 275 PT -19 machine with a 175 hp Ranger L -440 -1 engine. From 1941 began series production of the PT -19A with a 200 hp Ranger L -440 -3 engine. It 3181 the PT -19A were produced. More 477 was produced by Aeronca, and 44 pieces of the St. Louis Aircraft Company. The PT- 19B is designed for instrument flight instruction, of which 917 units were produced.

The successor to the PT -23 was a 220 hp Continental R -670 engine of this type was built 869 pieces. 256 PT -23A were again made ​​for blind flying training.

The last variant was the PT -26 with Ranger L -440 -7 engine. The Canadian version was called Cornell and has been used in Canada and Rhodesia.

On 3 September 2004, a PT -26 crashed after engine failure in Corsicana, Texas. The pilot and his passenger died.
