Fallowfield Stadium

Fallowfield Stadium was an athletics and football stadium in Manchester. It was built in 1892 as the home of Manchester Athletics Club. In addition, the English football club Manchester Wheelers played on the lawn of the stadium.

Notoriety got the stadium in 1893, when it was the venue for the FA Cup final. The final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton ended 1-0 to the Wanderers. In the game 45,000 spectators were present, although only 15,000 fit into the stadium.

In the stadium, a cycling track from shale was built on the 1919 national cycling championships and in 1934 the cycling competitions of the British Empire Games were held. After 1955, the stadium was named Reg Harris Stadium.

In the years 1897 and 1907, the National Track and Field Championships were also held in Fallowfield Stadium.

In 1960, the stadium of Manchester University was purchased. In 1994 it was demolished and is now the Richmond Park Halls of Residence.
