Fámjin stone

The Fámjinsstein ( Faroese: Fámjinssteinurin ) is a rune stone, standing on the Faroe Islands in the church at Fámjin.

The Fámjinsstein is the third and youngest of the rune stones that were found in the Faroes ( cf. Kirkjubøstein and Sandavágsstein ). It is a grave, and the runic inscription is repeated in the Latin alphabet. The stone is of little linguistic interest in the Faroese language research because it contains few runic characters, the more interesting is its date of origin in the 16th century after the Reformation to the Faroe Islands (1538 ). So the Fámjinsstein demonstrates the use of the runes on the Faroes even in nachkatholischer time.
