Fander Falconí

Fander Falconí Benítez (born 1962 ) is an Ecuadorian economist and politician.

Biography

After school he studied economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, where he graduated with a master ( Maestría de Economía ). He worked as an economist at the Facultad de Ciencias Sociales Latinoamericana ( FLACSO ), a transnational organization for research, teaching and promotion of the social sciences in Latin America, active. In addition, he completed a postgraduate degree in Business Ecology at the University of Barcelona, which he finished with both a master and the other with a doctorate. After his return, he worked as an academic coordinator and coordinator of the doctoral programs for business, development aid and research in the FLACSA. Later, he also served as staff of the Instituto Latinoamericano de Investigaciones Sociales ( ILDIS ), a social science institute in Quito, founded in 1974 as a regional office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

On 15 January 2007 he was appointed by newly elected President Rafael Correa to the National Secretary ( Secretary ) appointed for planning and development, having previously been one of the Mitkoordinatoren of the government program of his party Movimiento País. On 15 December 2008 President Correa appointed him as successor to the previously resigned Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration María Isabel Salvador.

On a visit to the Federal Republic of Germany he arranged in June 2009 with the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Erich Stather, that the BRD will pay an annual $ 50 million into a trust fund so that Ecuador huge oil deposits in the Amazon rainforest in Yasuni National Park does not exploit.
