Farès Boueiz

Farès Boueiz (Arabic: فارس بويز; born January 15, 1955 in Beirut ) is a Lebanese lawyer and politician who served as a two-time Secretary of State and Minister of the Environment. He is the Christian faith.

Career

Farès Boueiz served as foreign minister from 1990. This he remained until 1992 when he left his post for a few months in protest against the general elections in 1992 and was temporarily replaced by Nasri Maalouf. It was Boueiz, who took part after a long period in mid May 1991 on the first official meeting with Faruk Kadumi by the Political Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

He continued his work as Foreign Minister from 1992 led by the Prime Minister Rafic Hariri cabinet will continue. Hariri and he had a strained relationship since Hariri always intervened in the foreign policy. As Boueiz was in office was his father- Élias Hraoui President of Lebanon. In 1998 Boueiz was replaced by Selim Hoss as Foreign Minister.

Boueiz was one of the presidential candidates by Émile Lahoud's first term in office 2004. 2003 Boueiz was appointed environment minister in the run of Rafic Hariri Cabinet appointed and replaced in this post Michel Musa. Boueiz was an independent member of the Cabinet. On 7 September 2004, he resigned from his post to protest against the constitutional amendment, which extended Lahoud's term as president. With him came back three other ministers, including Marwan Hamadeh, Ghazi Aridi and Abdullah Farhat. Alls four ministers voted in Parliament against the extension of the term of office.

The Minister of State Michel Musa replaced Boueiz as managing the environment minister. Boueiz served as a member of Parliament and took until 2005 Kesrouan. After the end of Lahoud's term in office Boueiz was re-erected as a presidential candidate in 2007. In the general elections of 2009 he was no longer on the March 14 Alliance list.

Perspectives

During his second term as Secretary of State Boueiz worked with the Syrian authorities. However, he disagreed in 2001, the accusations of Syrian Defense Minister Mustafa Tlass in relation to the Maronite Patriarch Sfeir. On the other hand Boueiz was skeptical about the peace agreement between Israel and the PLO in 1993 and stated that Palestinian refugees should not settle in Lebanon - due to the sensitive demographic balance between indigenous Christians and Muslims in the country. During the talks with Egyptian diplomats in early April 1998 Boueiz explained that the treatment of the Jewish people by the Nazis is based on political reasons and that "they arrogantly as God's chosen people behaved. Personal

Farès Boueiz is the son of Lebanese President Élias Hraoui. Boueiz married his daughter namely Zalfa Hraoui in 1985.
