Faroese Women's Cup

The Faroe Islands Football Cup Women ( Faroese Steypakappingin kvinnur ) is the cup competition for football club teams of women and is played since 1990.

Development

After starting the first Deild 1985 it took five years before the first Cup was played. In the first edition took part in 13 teams, three of which were set directly for the quarter-finals, the other played in a qualification round, the remaining five participants. It was played exclusively in the knockout system, this mode was maintained until 1992 with varying numbers of participants. From 1993, the semi-final was played with back and leg, from 1996 to 1998 there was after two qualifying rounds, a group stage with two groups, each with four teams were qualified directly for the five teams. For the semi-final, this qualified each of the first and second place.

Current mode

The Cup will be played in pure knockout system. At present ten participating A- Teams which are provided exclusively by the first division, six are directly qualified for the quarter-finals. The remaining teams will play each other in the remaining two participants. Here and in all following rounds will be drawn wild, that is, without any seedings. Up to the semifinals, which will be held with return game and in which the away goals rule is applied, all the games are decided in a single game. Is it tied after 90 minutes, following a 30-minute extension. If then still no decision should be brought about, followed by a penalty shootout.

Worth mentioning

  • From 2010 to 2013 KÍ Klaksvík won the trophy four times in a row.
  • Until now, with ÍF Fuglafjørður (1993 ) only a second division side in the final, which his game but could not win.
  • Five teams were at least once in the cup final, but could never win the cup. ÍF Fuglafjørður here is the team with the most losses in any single win, they lost a total of three times in the final.
