History

In September 1999, the company e.Biscom was founded as a holding as well as several operating companies under its umbrella company in Milan, including Fastweb, which was responsible for telecommunications services. The aim of e.Bescom was the development of an entirely new generation of data transmission technology as an alternative to the traditional telecommunications.

Already in the first months after the establishment of an extensive fiber optic network has been installed in the metropolitan area of Milan. In order to finance growth and expand the fiber optic network to the main Italian cities took place in March 2000, the IPO on the Milan Stock Exchange in the Nuovo Mercato segment, the market for young companies.

In 2001 e.Biscom launched the first supplier worldwide fully IP - based broadband, voice and TV services, which were further expanded in 2002. 2003 supplemented e.Biscom its TV services with the live broadcast of football matches of the Italian championship over IPTV. The Video on Demand and the entire TV offer was transmitted to customers who were not connected to the fiber optic network also has ADSL. This ensured e.Biscom in 2003 was the first telecommunications company in the world, the triple play, ie the combined offering of TV, Internet and telephone services.

In June 2003, the shares of e.Biscom were included in the FTSE MIB Index, in which the top 40 listed companies in Italy are included.

In December 2004, a reorganization e.Biscom and Fastweb was merged under the name of Fastweb in the course. The aim was to complete the previously introduced focusing on the core business, ie, the provision of broadband-based multimedia fixed services in Italy. Since then, Fastweb is on an impressive expansion and has risen in Italy 's second largest fixed-line operator and the leading provider of IP-based telecommunications services.
