Fathers of Confederation

As the Fathers of Confederation (English Fathers of Confederation, French Pères de la Confédération ) the persons are called, who attended the Charlottetown Conference, the Quebec Conference and the London Conference. These conferences led to Canadian Confederation, ie the association of crown colonies in British North America to the State of Canada in 1867. The following list lists the participants of the conferences in Charlottetown, Quebec and London, and their presence.

There were originally 36 Fathers of Confederation, of which 11 were involved in all three conferences. Hewitt Bernard, secretary of the Charlottetown Conference, is sometimes also added. Individuals who contributed to the Confederacy after 1867 their respective provinces, are also referred to as the Fathers of Confederation. This applies firstly to Amor De Cosmos on, which contributed significantly to the accession of British Columbia to Confederation in 1871. Secondly, Joey Smallwood regarded as " the last Father of Confederation", when Newfoundland joined as the last province.
