Fatma Begum

Fatma Begum was an Indian actress and the first director of the Indian film.

Life

Fatma Begum was allegedly married to the Nawab of Sachin. They had two sons and three daughters Sultana, Zubeida and Shahzadi; all three were actresses. She began her career on stage in Urdu pieces. In 1922, she had shared with her ​​oldest daughter Sultana her film debut in Manilal Joshi's mythological drama Veer Abhimanyu. In 1924, she joined together with Sultana and Zubeida in movies production companies Kohinoor and Imperial Films in Bombay. Two years later she founded with Fatma film ( from 1928 Victoria Fatma film ) their own production company.
