Fatma Åžahin

Fatma Şahin ( born June 20, 1966 in Gaziantep ) is a Turkish chemical engineer and politician. From 6 July 2011 to December 25, 2013 she was Minister of Family and Social Policy within the third Cabinet Erdoğan.

Life

She was born in 1966 as daughter of Mustafa and Perihan Şahin. Later she studied chemical engineering at the Technical University of Istanbul. She then worked as an engineer and manager in the textile industry.

She went with her husband Izzet Sahin in the policy and co-founded the Party for Justice and Development (AKP ). While they actively participated in the provincial administration, she was elected three times as MP for her home town. She is the first female Member of Parliament, elected from Gaziantep and the southeastern Anatolia. Fatma Şahin served as chairman of the women's section of their party.

After the 2011 elections, she was the only woman in the cabinet of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Her successor in office as Minister for Family Affairs was on 25 December 2013, the Turkish politician Ayşenur İslam.

She has a daughter and a son.
