Fatoumata Dembélé Diarra

Fatoumata Dembele Diarra ( * February 15, 1949 in Koulikoro ) is a lawyer from Mali. She has worked as an ad litem judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia from 2001 to 2003, and was appointed in 2003 as a judge at the International Criminal Court. From 2009 to 2012 she was the first of two Vice-Presidents of the Court.

Life

Fatoumata Dembele Diarra was born in 1949 in Koulikoro and studied 1970/1971 at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, from 1971 to 1974 at the School of Administration Ecole Nationale d'Administration in Bamako from 1975 to 1977 at the École nationale de la magistrature in Paris, of the French Academy for training of judges. Then had to operate from 1977 to 1980 as an examining magistrate in a court of first instance in Bamako before 1980/1981, where he worked as a prosecutor as well as 1981/1982 as Vice President of the Labour Court.

From 1982 to 1986 she was then investigating judge on a lower court in her native city of Koulikoro. After that, she served from 1986 to 1991 as a legal secretary of the National Assembly and from 1991 to 1993 as Director General of the Copyright Office of Mali. In addition, she taught from 1986 to 1991 as a professor of constitutional, civil and criminal law at the Ecole Centrale pour l'Industrie, le Commerce et l' Administration in Bamako. They then moved back to the Courts Service and worked as a judge in a court of appeal, and from 1996 to 1999 as President of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals in Bamako in 1994. From 1999 to 2001 she headed the Administration of Justice of Mali.

In June 2001 she was elected as ad litem Judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, where she was involved in a process beginning in September of the same year. In February 2003, she was nominated by the government of their home country, a judge at the newly established International Criminal Court in The Hague chosen. Your choice was made on the suggestion list A for candidates with proven expertise in the field of criminal law and criminal procedural law for a term of nine years. She is assigned to the Court of the Trial Division and was from 2009 to 2012 first vice president alongside Hans -Peter Kaul from Germany, who served as the second vice-president during this time.

Focus of their work are the areas of human rights, especially women 's and children's rights.
