Fatumean

Fatumean East Timor is a subdistrict in the district of Cova Lima. Capital is Fatumea ( Fatumean )

Geography

Fatumean is located in the extreme northwest Cova Lima. In the east it borders the sub-district Fohorem and to the southeast by Tilomar. Otherwise Fatumean is surrounded by the Indonesian West Timor.

The subdistrict is divided into three Sucos: Belulic Leten ( Beluluik Leten, Betulik Leten, literally: "Upper - Belulik " ), Fatumea ( Fatumean ) and Nanu. Its current structure, there is only Davor since 2003. Divided one Fatumean in the four Sucos Alasleten (equivalent to today's Fatumea ) Belulik Kråik ( " sub - Belulik ", the north of today's Belulik Leten ) Belulik Leten (the southern, narrow part of the today Belulik Leten and the southern part of Nanu ) and nano Dakolo (the northern part of today's nanus).

Population

In Subdistrict Fatumean 3,332 people live (2010, 2004: 3,346 ). The largest language group consists of the speakers of Tetum Terik, a dialect the official language, Tetum. A large minority speaks the national language Bunak. The average age is 16.7 years ( 2010, 2004: 16.0 years ).

History

From the pre-colonial history of Timor there is only oral traditions, Whereas the peoples of the island used no writing. Originally, therefore, dominated the five kingdoms of the core region of the district: Camenaça ( Kamenasa ), Suai, Maucatar, Taroman and Fohorem. Fohorem dominated the other empires through diplomacy, marriage alliances and conquests against other kingdoms in the region. After the Liurai of Fohorem had secured sovereignty over the region, he gave each of his five daughters own kingdom as a fief. This, in turn, contributed tribute in the form of agricultural and forestry products. Another source indicates that initially the three realms Fatumean, Lookeu and Dakolo the coalition Uma Tolu ( " Three Houses " ) merged together. Only after a war against the Portuguese empires Sisi and Maudemi were added and there was Koba Lima. By corruption was from " Koba " later " Cova ". In March 1895 the Portuguese governor José Celestino Silva started as an offensive against Fatumean and other empires. During the war of Manufahi (1894-1896) occupied warrior from Fatumean times the fort of Batugade, as the crew fought to a different location. In September 1895 the ruler of Fatumean concluded with Portugal a written contract on his vassal status.

In order to escape the attacks of the Indonesian army in 1976, most of the inhabitants fled the Subdistrikte Fohorem, Fatululic, Fatumean and Tilomar to Mount Taroman. Others fled to the villages Dato Tolu, Fatuloro, Taroman and Lactos.

Economy

73 % of households in the subdistrict grow maize, cassava, 66%, 60 % vegetables, 49 % rice, 58 % coconut and 42 % coffee.
