Fazer

Fazer [' fɑtsɛr ] is a Finnish company, whose name is a popular brand of chocolate bar, chocolate bars, chocolate and other foods in the whole of Scandinavia, but also in the Baltic countries, Poland, Russia and the UK.

In Germany it is rather less well known, is marketed by the company Brandt and is available in specializing in luxury chocolate stores or well-stocked supermarkets. Especially the manufactured since 1922 classic chocolate Fazerin Sininen ( Fazer 's Blue, German " Fazer Blue " ) in the characteristic blue packaging is in Finland for generations popular and considered opinion of many Finns today the Finnish identity, such as the Salmiakpastillen salmiakki, also since 1939 produced by Fazer.

Created the brand was the end of the 19th century in Helsinki by a native of Switzerland, baker, pastry chef and chocolatier Karl Fazer. This had opened in 1891 in downtown Helsinki is a Russian- French café, which still exists, and started four years later with the production and marketing of our own chocolate products and other sweets. The company expanded to the late 1930s, especially after the national independence of Finland from Russia in 1917 continuously, a Finnish- English biscuit factory, bakeries, restaurants and first outlets in Sweden were added.

During the Second World War Fazer macaroni and biscuits produced for the Finnish Army. Since the 1950s, the company operated more bread factories, later a mill. In the 1970s, it rose in a big way in the burgeoning catering business in Finland, among others for schools, businesses and government agencies, and business and took several canteens. The baked goods business, especially in the market segment of rye bread, was expanded. The traditional chocolate business became increasingly marginal within the Fazer Group.

From the 1990s onwards came subsidiaries, mergers and acquisitions of other companies, including in Poland, Russia and the UK, added, also a café- chain.

Today, the Fazer Group, as Oy Karl Fazer Ab remained a family operates in three business areas Catering ( Fazer Amica, mostly in Finland and Sweden), bakery business ( Fazer Bakeries, mostly in Finland and Russia) as well as sweets and wine gums (Candy King, mostly in Sweden and Norway). Fazer employed in 2008 over 15,800 employees and 1,159 million euros to put it.

The chocolate department merged in 2000 with the Swedish manufacturer of chocolate and confectionery Cloetta Fazer AB to Cloetta. Brand name and logo Fazer for the traditional chocolate products and the salmiakki however, remained preserved. On 16 June 2008 it was announced that the merger with Cloetta Fazer is canceled and will be performed again as an independent Finnish family.
