History

1915-1945

The July 1, 1915 is considered the founding date of the Beggeners football club. The original name was Etoile Sportive, but there is already a club by that name existed in Luxembourg was renamed Avenir ( dt: Future ) Beggen. In the same year appeared one at the Luxembourg Football Federation FLF. 1918 could with the rise in the 2nd Division (3rd League ) celebrate his first success. After 1923 were relegated from League Selbiger again, we sat in the subsequent seasons on a short flight of: the direct re-emergence in 1926 was followed by the rise in the Promotion, the then second division of the country. After only one year but were forced to say goodbye from this after losing to CS Pétange a qualification game. In 1931 they returned to the second- highest division, but could only hold for a year again. The descent was followed by the re-emergence the following season, and after 1937, the Stade Emile Metz- Tesch was completed, the first time you could win in the season 1937/38, the rise in the Premier Division, the top flight of Luxembourg. The first season in the top division was extremely unhappy: With only four wins and a draw from 18 games Avenir Beggen rose as Table with 32:79 gates again.

During the Second World War under the German occupation Beggen played from 1940 to 1944 under the name SV 1915 Beggen in a lower league, after the Luxembourg clubs were forcibly integrated by the National Socialists in the German Gauligasystem.

1945-1968

Directly after the end of the German occupation was to rename the in FC Avenir Beggen. 1945/46, started the club in the first postwar regular season in the 1st Division. 1946 and 1950 Beggen could put two more times smaller exclamation mark by reaching the semi-finals in the Coupe de Luxembourg ( Luxembourg Cup competition). 1948 we were relegated to the third tier, where you remained until the new season in 1957/58, stood at the end of the descent into the fourth league. By 1962, however, a rapid rise should be: After the re-emergence in 1959 we managed to direct walkover in the second league. And after only two seasons in the second league it was after 23 years back in the first division. Only once it was necessary to immediately suffer a setback: 1964 it was only second-rate for a season, but failed to qualify athletic right back for the 1st league. In the following years could put yourself in the top division establish what great success should follow.

1969-1994

After a seventh place in the 1967/68 season, followed a year later the first championship. Points with Jeunesse Esch you were due to goal difference ( 38 to 30) Luxembourg Champion and at the same time to Beggen qualified for a European competition for the first time. Right at the first participation in the European Cup of Champions they met the Italian top club AC Milan, last year's winner. Although they lost in front of 50,000 spectators in Milan 5-0 and the second leg was not much better with a 0:3 defeat, but against this enemy, these were highly respectable results.

Next highlight the club's history was the first time reaching the Cup final in 1974. Although we lost against Jeunesse Esch with 1:4, in Beggen nevertheless allowed on the first participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup happy because Esch at the same time also won the championship. Having had retired in the first round of the Cypriot representative Paralymni Famagusta, they met in the second round on FK Red Star Belgrade. In the two games against the Yugoslav club we shot the first occasion goals in an international competition, but also cashed those equal to 11 and divorced again a chance. Again, only a year later (1975 /76), the club celebrated its premiere also to the UEFA Cup. In addition, they lost here against FC Porto 12:10.

For the next six years Avenir Beggen played mostly in the lower regions of the league until the 1981/82 season could again get people talking. In August 1981, the new stadium Stade de Beggen was inaugurated at the same time and you could be the second time the Luxembourg champion after 1969. This entitled the club also for renewed participation in the National Champion Cup. With Rapid Vienna but they met a team that class better as compared to Beggen and against which it was eliminated with 0:5 and 0:8. In addition to the runners could be in the 1982/83 season for the first time the Cup win (4-2 against Union Luxembourg).

The 1983/84 season should be the hitherto most successful season in the club's history. By winning the double ( league and cup ) you underlined the achievements in previous years, impressive. Although one difference as in previous years, no chance in international competition ( 1:9 against Servette Geneva ), but one moved by the triumph of the League in the circle of the great clubs in Luxembourg.

The years after that should not be without success. 1986 was one of Luxembourg champion for the fourth time and only a year later also won the third Cup victory in just five years.

Until 1992, you could then reach the final of the Cup only twice (1988 and 1989 ), but lost both times. With the Cup victory in 1992 it was once again qualified for a European competition for the 1992/93 season. For the first time, one should be able to enforce it against an athletic team: Against the Faroese representatives B36 Tórshavn you won the first leg 1-0 in the second leg and could achieve a 1-1 the first main round. There succeeded the Luxembourgers even stopped a 0-0 at home to Spartak Moscow, only the 1:5 defeat in Russia Avenir. In the league it was also excellent for Beggen. After 1984, they won for the second time the league and cup, a success which could even be repeated in the 1993/94 season again. In the league they were at the end of 1994 with 4.5 points ( half points due to the acquisition of half the number of points of the season in the play-off round ) projection master, in the cup final they beat as in the previous season F91 Dudelange. This Avenir Beggen was the third time in a row cup winner, a feat previously only twice Red Boys Differdange succeeded in the early years of the cup competition.

1995-2013

With the 1994/95 season, the slow relegation of the team began. With a place in the table region succeeded to the penultimate time qualifying for the UEFA Cup, where they could survive a round one last time. Against the Swedish representative Örebro SK they played away 0:0, 1:1 at home. Although it would have been excreted by the away goals rule, they reached the next round. The Swedes had a foreigner placed in the return game too much, so the game was rated retroactively 3-0 for Beggen. In the next round it sat two significant defeats against RC Lens ( 0:6 and 0:7 ), to the 2002/03 season was this was the last international appearance.

After reaching the Cup final in 1998 and a play-off participation in 2000, the club is located in the new millennium, only in a relegation battle. Last ray of hope was the total already seventh Cup success in the 2001/ 02 season. By a 1-0 win against F91 Dudelange qualified you also currently most recently for the UEFA Cup (1:9 against Ipswich Town)

In the 2005/06 season the club was relegated after 41 years excellence from the second division. In the decisive play-off game they lost against FC Mondercange with 2:3 after extra time, all the more tragic than you apparently safe lay up to 92 minute lead still 2-0. But a few years ago for survival to club now has paid his debt in the amount of 250,000 Euros and is for the first time since the resignation of Théo Mersch, the longtime president of the association, in 2001, back out of the crisis of leadership, this is under the direction the new strong president, Jean Hansen and his team.

In the season 2006/ 07 does not necessarily expected direct re- ascent, which had been decided at the third last match succeeded. In the 2008 /09 season they finished after a disappointing year on the 14th and last place in the National Division and rose again from the honorary doctorate. 2010/11, followed the next descent, so the club only mediocre in the 1st Division plays.
