FC Dunav Ruse

The FC Dunaw Russian ( Bulgarian ФК Дунав Русе ) is a football team from the Bulgarian city of Ruse; it plays in the 2008/ 09 season in the B Grupa East. The team wears their home games at Gradski Stadium with a capacity of 22,000 seats. The Games of the youth teams will be played in Dunav Stadium ( 12,000 seats). There are also the training takes place.

Dunaw is known for well-attended home games and loyal fans. The last time in A Grupa the team played in 1990/91; Since then, the club tried unsuccessfully again to reach the excellence.

Achievements

Successes include the earlier years; the team reached the final of the Bulgarian Cup in 1937, was fourth in the first division in 1975 and was four times (1938, 1939, 1941 and 1962) in the Bulgarian Cup final. Dunaw Russian took 1975/1976 part in the UEFA Cup, where she was eliminated in the second leg after a 1-0 victory over AS Roma with a 0:2.

Under coach Engibar Engibarow FC Dunaw Russian won the trophy for the amateur clubs in the 2003/04 season; In the same year she returned into the second Bulgarian professional league.

Times of excellence were the years 1958-1967, 1968-1973, 1974-1977, 1984-1986 and finally from 1988 to 1991.

History

Beginnings of the club go back to 1908; a start-up took place in 1949, which was followed by many name changes. The " Dunaw " in the name means " Danube".
