FC Kiffen 08

FC Kiffen 08 Helsinki (often referred to simply as Kiffen ) is a sports club from Helsinki district Kruununhaka (Swedish Kronohagen ).

The football team of the club played 22 seasons in the Mestaruussarja, the highest Finnish league, and was four times Finnish champion.

The club name is derived from the Swedish Kronohagens Idrottsförening ( KIF ).

History

The club was under the name Kronohagens IF ( short KIF ) established in 1908. Soon, the first success came. 1913 defeated the KIF ÅIFK Turku in the Finnish Cup final 5-3. Another championship followed in 1915 with a 1-0 victory, again against ÅIFK Turku. KIF 1916 won again against ÅIFK Turku by a 3:2 the Finnish championship.

1928 brought the ice hockey team, the runner-up in the inaugural Finnish championships. End of the 1930s and early 1940s KIF was one of the best teams in the country and in 1939, 1941 and 1943 Finnish champion.

Kronohagens IF Helsinki belonged in 1930 to the founding members of Mestaruussarja, the highest Finnish football league. It took until 1955 to again followed a Finnish championship. 1978, the club was relegated after 22 seasons starting in the Mestaruussarja. A year earlier, the club had renamed to FC Kiffen Helsinki.

In the 1970s, the men's handball team from KIF to the national forefront belonged. From 1972 to 1982, the team always reached a place among the top three with only one exception. 1976 and 1978 won the trophy Kiffen. 1978 even as a double with the Finnish Championship. 1989 celebrated the team as a third party the last notable success.

The handball team of women won the trophy in 1981 and was then more than a decade of the best teams in Finland. 1992 and 1993, the Kiffen players brought the Cup.

Today, the football team plays in the Kiffens Kakkonen, the third- highest league in Finland.
