Fear of God (American band)

Fear of God was an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California, which grew out of the band Détente in 1989 and was disbanded in 1996.

History

The band was formed in 1989 out of the renaming of the band Détente after they had signed a contract with the Warner Music Group. The band recorded their debut album called Within the Veil on in the recording studio of producer Pat Regan. The album was mixed by Andy Wallace. The band sent the recordings for Warner Music, with it still called the group Sediction. After tossing the Bible Carlino finally came in the name of Fear of God.

The album was released in 1991. This was followed in the summer tour of the U.S., which included 30 appearances. Ten appearances before the end of the tour there was a physical confrontation between drummer Steve Cordova and vocalist Dawn Crosby, which meant that Cordova left the band at the end of the tour. He was replaced by Brendan Etter. After Christmas of that year, the band embarked on some recordings in the studio. The following year, she played on the tour of Gdansk. As a new bassist Jason Levin also joined the band.

In early 1992 the band went to London in the Battery Studios, where the shooting took place under the direction of producer Chris Tsangarides. During the recordings, there was a dispute between Michael Carlino and vocalist Dawn Crosby, so that they no longer appeared on the recordings and the vocals could not be completed. Crosby went back to her hometown of Annapolis, Maryland. Together with the guitarist Jay Abbene and Terry Carter, drummer Shannon Larkin, all at Wrathchild America operates and bassist Rob Michael, she went on a tour of Europe. In April, they have been some on the Aardschokdag on festival.

She then returned to the band, and it came with Douglas Sylvia a new drummer to the band. The band recorded a new demo, with this the guitarist Brandon Hefner and Randy Bobzien were heard. After the recordings, Sylvia left the band, so the demo with the new drummer John Grden was again taken up. Hefner left in the summer of 1993 during a tour of the band and was replaced by Chris Kalandras. On 12 February 1994, the band signed a contract with Pavement Music for an album. On March 7, the band went into the studio to Florida. In July, followed by a few performances. During the recording of the album, it also led to disputes with drummer John Grden, whereby all members except for singer Crosby left the band.

The album Toxic Voodoo was released in 1994. This was followed by a tour, came to the band with bassist Bruce Greig and the guitarist Bill Hayden and Sparky Voyles. In 1995, the band recorded another demo. Voyles was replaced with Frank Dimauro. In the spring of 1996 he left the band and was replaced by Tony Mallory, who also still played keyboards in the band. Bassist Bruce Greig also left the band and was replaced by Mike Schafer.

On December 15, 1996 Dawn Crosby died due to liver failure, which was caused by years of alcohol abuse. Her death marked the end of the band. However, the members played for some years under the name Fog on.

Style

The band plays classic thrash metal, with influences from the rock and Gothic area are audible.
