Federal Correctional Institution, Loretto
The Federal Correctional Institution, Loretto (FCI Loretto ) is a U.S. federal prison near the city of Loretto, Pennsylvania. It has the medium security level and is home to only men.
The prison is located in western Pennsylvania between Altoona and Johnstown, east of the larger city of Pittsburgh. Essentially, there are prisoners imprisoned awaiting their trial before the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the local federal court.
History
FCI Loretto was originally a Franciscan monastery that was converted into a prison. It originally had a very low level of security, the first 15 prisoners were for minor offenses and helped the monks in their daily work.
