Loretto is a municipality ( Borough ) in Cambria County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 1,190 in an area of 2.6 km ². The population density is 458 per km ².

The place was founded by Demetrius Augustine Gallitzin Catholic priest and was given its name in 1799 after the Italian pilgrimage town of Loreto. Since 1845 Loretto has the status of a borough. It is close to the Federal Correctional Institution, Loretto (FCI Loretto ), a U.S. federal prison medium security level is.
