Blair County, Pennsylvania

Blair County is a county located in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 129 144 inhabitants and a population density of 95 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hollidaysburg.

History

The county was formed on 26 February 1846 the Huntingdon and Bedford County and named after John Blair a prominent citizen. On 21 December 2012 4 people were killed in a shooting spree in front of the Juniata Valley Gospel Church on the Juniata Valley Road in Geeseytown district, killed and injured three policemen.

Geography

The county has an area of 1,365 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. Beaver County is bordered on the north by Centre County, on the east by Huntingdon County, Bedford County to the south and to the west by Cambria County.

The Blair County is divided into 25 municipalities, one city, nine boroughs and 15 townships. The Borough Tunnel Hill is just a small part in Blair County. For statistical purposes, the U.S. Census Bureau performs two census-designated places. These are part of a township and have no self-government.
