Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

The Allegheny County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

In the census in 2010, the County had 1,223,348 inhabitants and a population density of 646.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pittsburgh.

The Allegheny County is the core of the metropolitan area around the city of Pittsburgh.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Pennsylvania in the middle of the metropolitan area around the city of Pittsburgh at the confluence of the Monongahela River and the Allegheny River to the Ohio River. It has an area of 1929 km ², of which 38 km ² water surface are. At the Allegheny County borders the following counties:

History

The county was formed on September 24, 1788 from former parts of Washington and Westmoreland County. It was named after the Allegheny River.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Allegheny County 1,223,348 people in 524,584 households. The population density was 646.9 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 81.5 percent white, 13.2 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native American, 2.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.6 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

In the 524 584 households lived statistically 2.26 per person.

19.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 63.4 percent were between 18 and 64 and 16.8 percent were 65 years or older. 52.1 percent of the population was female.

The median income for a household was $ 46,212. The per capita income was $ 28,825. 13.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
