Homestead is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in the southeast of Pittsburgh.

History

The city was founded in 1880. According to the census of 2000 the town had 3569 inhabitants, while in 1940, 19,041 people were still living in the city. Homestead was known primarily for one there in 1881 based steel plant, which was acquired in 1883 by Andrew Carnegie and in which occurred the legendary Homestead strike in July 1892 and by the associated bloody clashes between the strikers and of Carnegie's manager Henry Clay Frick dedicated Pinkerton detectives.
