Paul Zastupnevich

Paul DN Zastupnevich ( born December 24, 1921 in Homestead, Pennsylvania; † 9 May 1997 Rancho Mirage, California ) was an American costume designer.

Life and work

Paul Zastupnevich first attended Homestead High School in his hometown and then the Carnegie Institute of Technology, a company specializing in engineering college in Pittsburgh. He received a bachelor's degree at Duquesne University and the Master at the University of Pittsburgh. His first experience in costume design he made at the Pittsburgh Civic Ballet and with Gene Kelly Pitt Cap and Gown show. He then studied fashion design at the Louise Salinger School of Dress Design in Pittsburg.

During his military service he was involved as a costume designer in theater performance at Fort Benning. These included items such as Oklahoma,, Separate Rooms and The Man who Came to Dinner. The mid 1940s moved Zastupnevich to Hollywood. Around ten years, he worked as a costume designer and theater actor at the Pasadena Playhouse.

About a meeting with the actress Rhonda Fleming came Zastupnevich in the Department of Irwin Allen's film The Big Circus Circus (1959 ), for which he designed the costumes. Starting with this film debut, he worked over 30 years with Allen, both as a costume designer as well as a production assistant. He endowed among others, the disaster films The Poseidon Adventure, The day went down the world and the deadly swarm and was awarded with Oscar nominations. He also worked on Allen's television productions such as the SF series Lost between alien worlds. Your television movie Alice in Wonderland 1986 reached five Emmy nominations, including one for Zastupnevichs costume design. At this time, ended his film career.

Later Zastupnevich worked as a freelance fashion designer, he designed, among other prom dresses for Olivia de Havilland. With his sister Olga, he led the Boutique The House of Z. In 1994 he was co-founder and president of the Irwin Allen News Network ( Iann ), the promotion and dissemination of Irwin Allen's work is showcased.

Paul died in 1997 Zastupnevich in Rancho Mirage cancer. He was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood.
