Time Travelers is a science fiction film from 1976 starring Sam Groom, Tom Hallick and Richard Basehart. The screenplay was written by Jackson Gillis and Rod Serling. Producer was Irwin Allen, who was planning a remake of the 1960s series The Time Tunnel. The pilot came on not good enough and was sent as ABC Movie of the Week.

Action

During a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans ill a young woman at a mysterious new virus that has been described as "XB ". Dr. Clinton Earnshaw has several similar cases diagnosed without having yet found a therapy, and fears the outbreak of an epidemic. In his office, he is surprised by Jeff Adams, who shows parallels to a similar epidemic over a century ago, which was known as " wood fever " at that time. The records of the discoverer Dr. Joshua P. Henderson, however, were destroyed in the great Chicago Fire of 1871.

Adams makes Earnshaw familiar with the Nobel laureate and former NASA Administrator Dr. Amos Cummings and his colleague Dr. Helen Sanders, experimenting with time travel. Immediately be Earnshaw and Adams, historically dressed, but equipped with modern instruments, sent in 1871, but land in the middle of Chicago rather than at Hendersons country house, closer to the time and place of the fire disaster than planned.

You will find Henderson and introduce themselves as colleagues from Washington, which had been assigned to him for support, but Henderson can not explain why his patients survive them. Henderson's daughter falls in love with Earnshaw, who returns her affection. While the fire already raging, try Earnshaw and Adams to bring Hendersons records per se, but are surprised by him and taken to task, after which Adams shows him the virus samples in his modern microscope.

Finally Earnshaw and Adams find the solution and reach just in time their departure point, Earnshaw finds, however, that he is temporarily infected himself with the disease. Back in the present of the year 1976, it is possible to heal with Hendersons results Earnshaw and patients. In the final scene find the time travelers that Henderson and his daughter have died in the fire died.
