Morton Stevens

Morton Stevens, a native Aaron Morton Suckno ( born January 30, 1929 in Newark, New Jersey, † November 11, 1991 in Encino, California ) was an American composer.

Biography

Morton Stevens graduated in 1950 his studies in composition at the Juilliard School. As an arranger and conductor of Sammy Davis Jr. Stevens made ​​his entrance in the early 1950s in show business. Later he worked in the same capacity with Jerry Lewis, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Liza Minnelli. From the early 1960s, Stevens made ​​his debut as a film composer for several television series and the Western The rough riders of Texas. Larger national and international notoriety gained Stevens with his theme music for the TV series Hawaii Five-O. In addition to the theme music he composed for 57 episodes and won in 1970 and 1974 his only two Emmy Awards, with a total of ten nominations.

On November 11, 1991 Stevens died at the age of 62 years from the effects of a pancreatic tumor. He was survived by his wife and their two children.
