Fred Jackman

Fred Woodruff Jackman ( born July 9, 1881 in Tama County, Iowa; † August 27, 1959 in Hollywood, California ) was an American cinematographer, film director and special effects technicians.

Life

Fred Jackman began in 1916 his film career as a cameraman and was mainly used for short films. With over 80 films, he was chief cameraman. From 1925 led Jackman also directed. 11 times he directed films, including four short films.

In 1925, Jackman also looked after the technical aspects Warner Bros.. He came soon to make the camera technical special effects. Until 1941, he worked in this field for 22 films.

From 1921 to 1923 he was president of the American Society of Cinematographers.

1934 was awarded the Oscar for technical merit Fred Jackman along with Sidney Saunders of RKO Studios, Inc. and the Fox Film Corporation. Thus, their development of transparent cellulose - screen for montages was appreciated.
