Federation of Austrian Industry

The Federation of Austrian Industry, shortly Industry (IV ) is an interest group of the Austrian industry. It sees itself both as advocacy on the Austrian and European level, as well as a service organization for its 3,500 members. Membership is, in contrast to the chambers, on a voluntary basis.

IV - Brussels Office

History

As the oldest predecessor organization was created in 1862, the association of industrialists, the representation of large and heavy industry. In 1892, the Central Union of Industrialists of Austria was created as a representation of individual trade associations, a little later, in 1897, the Federation of Austrian Industrialists as representing small and medium enterprises. These three clubs were 1906-09 the House of Industry to build the Schwarzenberg Platz, which became the seat of the later Industrial Association. They joined after the collapse of Austria - Hungary to the National Federation of Austrian Industry, later the Austrian industry Federation, together. The Federation was founded in the time of the corporate state of the Austrian industrialist was abandoned after the connection to Hitler's Germany.

1946 was the re-establishment as a Federation of Austrian Industry. After the House of Industry had survived the Second World War without major damage, it was until 1955 the seat of the Allied Council. Since the withdrawal of the Allies, the house is once again the seat of the Industrialists' Association. On 23 May 1996 the last change of name of the Association in the Federation of Austrian Industry was carried out.

Criticism

Because payments to the Association for the Promotion of the New Economy and the resulting scandal of the website is funded by the then Finance Minister Karl -Heinz Grasser, the Industrialists' Association has been criticized, among others, opposition politicians and voiced the suspicion of bribery. Back in 1993, covered the journalist Markus Wilhelm on payments of Industrialists to different political groups (ÖVP, FPÖ and others).
