Feliks Janiewicz

Feliks Janiewicz (* 1762 in Vilnius, † May 21 1848 in Edinburgh ) was a Polish- British composer and violinist.

Life

Janiewicz was since 1777 violinist of the Royal Chapel in Warsaw. King Stanislas II Augustus allowed him to study music in Nancy. Janiewicz traveled to Vienna and Italy and lived in Paris and London later. Finally he settled in Liverpool as music shop down. He was a member of the Philharmonic Society, whose concerts he served as Kapellmeister. Since 1815, he lived as a conductor of the Musical Society in Edinburgh.

Work

He composed five violin concertos, six Divertimenti, six trios for two violins and cello, duos for violin, piano pieces and vocal works. He also edited works by other composers for the violin.
