Felipe Bulnes

Felipe Bulnes Serrano ( born May 27, 1969 in Santiago de Chile) is a Chilean lawyer and politician of the center-right liberal party Renovación Nacional.

Bulnes studied law at Harvard University and, after graduating as an advisor to the Bar Association and was a member of the law firm Bulnes, Pellegrini Urrutia. He also served as a professor at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. After the presidential elections in Chile 2009/2010 Bulnes took over in Sebastián Piñera's Cabinet the post of Minister of Justice.

Because of ongoing student and student protests had to resign from his post Joaquín Lavín Minister of Education in July 2011. Bulnes was then education minister. The protests of students directed against the anti-social education system in Chile, which is largely financed by tuition fees and causes that many students are in debt after graduation. The demonstrators calling for a fair, state-funded education system. Bulnes initiated a negotiation process with the students, but this was canceled after a short time because the government refused to discuss free education for all students.

On December 29, 2011 Bulnes resigned after less than six months back by the Office of the Minister of Education. Officially " personal reasons" as a reason for cancellation were called, observers suggest, however, that Bulnes was disappointed by the narrow limits that had been put to him by the government side for the negotiations with the students. Bulnes was succeeded by Harald Beyer, who refuses to educational reform.

Since 2012 Bulnes is Chilean Ambassador to the United States.
