Felix Aderca

Felix Aderca ( born March 13, 1891 in Puieşti, Vaslui, † December 12, 1962 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian poet, author and essayist.

Life and work

Aderca was of Jewish origin, and wrote in the 1930s for left newspapers and magazines, among other things, for Contimporanul ( German: The Contemporary ), a Romanian avant-garde magazine. After 1945 he lived in constant fear of arrest and died in 1962 in Bucharest.

Awareness outside of the Romanian language area was published in 1936 Aderca with his science fiction novel The underwater cities ( Original title: Oraşele înecate or even Oraşele scufundate ). Aderca describes it as - humanity is drawn back into the depths of the oceans - due to the Erkaltens our sun. Huge dome cities built on the sea floor. But even this is only a postponement before the relentless cold death, as the last natural resources are running out. Are only two ways of survival for humanity it either penetrate into the hot volcanic bowels of the earth, to use the natural heat storage of the Earth's core, or to look at the last minute through the ice of satisfied leaders oceans a way into the cosmos.

He was married to the poet Sanda Movilă.
