Félix María de Samaniego

Félix María Samaniego ( born October 12, 1745 Félix María de Samaniego Serafín Sánchez in Laguardia, Álava, † August 11, 1801 ) was a Spanish poet who was important to his tales of the history of Spanish literature.

Life and work

Félix María Samaniego was born into a wealthy and prominent family. He studied jurisprudence at Valladolid and has traveled to France, where he became familiar with the ideas of the French encyclopedist and culture. Samaniego lived for several years in Bilbao and participated in the publication of polemics.

His 175 Fábulas morales, originated 1781-1784, were inspired by the works of Aesop, Phaedrus ' and La Fontaine, whom he borrowed the themes of his fables. In addition to his contemporaries Tomás de Iriarte (1750-1791), where he was based, Samaniego is the preeminent poet of his time, whose verse text is characterized by a "natural language and graceful dialogues ".
