Felona e Sorono is a studio album by the Italian progressive rock band Le Orme. It appeared in 1973 at Philips.

Creation and publication

The recordings were completed in February 1973 in Milan and released the album in the same year. There also appeared a version with English lyrics by Peter Hammill as Felona & Sorona at Charisma Records. A new edition of 2011 includes both versions on double LP or CD.

Style

The lyrics of the concept album deal shrouded from completely in light or darkness, opposing planet Felona and Sorona and their residents. Le Orme play on Felona e Sorona understated but atmospheric and symphonic progressive rock with influences from Italopop and folk. Synthesizer, mellotron, piano and organ in the foreground. Occasionally, acoustic guitars are used, but no electric guitars. Complex, dramatic and quiet passages take turns. The vocals are harmonious, Robert Taylor of Allmusic compares Tagliapietras voice with the Sting.

Reception

Felona e Sorona is the most important work of the band and as a classic of Italian progressive rock.
