Ferdinand Anton Ernst Porsche

Ferdinand " Ferry" Porsche Anton Ernst ( born September 19, 1909 in Wiener Neustadt; † 27 March 1998 in Zell am See) was an Austrian entrepreneur (automotive ) and engineer.

Life and achievements

Ferry Porsche was the only son of the automobile designer Ferdinand Porsche to the world. While his sister Louise (1904-1999) the Viennese law Anton Piëch married and remained in Austria, Ferry lived predominantly in Stuttgart. He did post-high school in 1928 a one-year internship at Bosch and then received private lessons for a year on automotive technology. 1931 Ferry appeared as an employee in the newly founded by his father design office. In 1932 he was responsible for monitoring test and 1934 for test drives of the KdF car. Its development had the RDA ( National Association of the Automotive Industry ) commissioned on 22 June 1934, Ferry Porsche was it authoritative involved. Ferry Porsche's major achievement is the development of his father's Porsche work to an automobile manufacturing company. The company Porsche builds to date sports car of world renown, including since 1963 the models of the type 911, the lines of which Ferry's son Ferdinand Alexander drew.

Under Ferry Porsche, the Porsche trademark was designed. The mixture of the coat of arms of Württemberg -Hohenzollern and Stuttgart makes a reference to the location of the work. It is complemented by a crowning Porsche lettering. Ferry Porsche was the first draft once during a stay in New York on a napkin. Today it is one of the most famous trademarks in the world.

Ferry Porsche was up to the retreat of the Porsche family from operational management in 1972 CEO of Dr. Ing hc F. Porsche KG. He then managed the Supervisory Board and until his death on 27 March 1998 Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board. He also had in common with his sister Louise owners of Porsche Holding Salzburg, whose principal business is the trading of vehicles of the Volkswagen and Audi, as well as those daughters today.

Ferry Porsche was from 1935 until her death with the Porsche from Stuttgart Dorothea, nee Reitz ( 1911-1985 ), married. Her four sons are Alexander Ferdinand (1935-2012), Gerhard ( born 1938 ), Hans -Peter ( * 1940 ) and Wolfgang ( b. 1943 ).

The graves Ferry Porsche and his wife are located in Zell am See, where their urns are buried in the chapel of the bulk material.

Honors

1965 awarded the Technical University of Vienna, the Porsche an honorary doctorate. 1984 appointed Baden-Württemberg him honorary professor and 1985, the University of Stuttgart Honorary Senator. 1975 Porsche was awarded the Grand Gold Medal of the Republic of Austria and in 1979 with the Great Federal Cross of Merit with Star and the Wilhelm Exner Medal. Other honors have included 1989, the Public Service Medal of the city of Stuttgart, 1990, the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden -Württemberg and in 1994 the honorary citizenship Wiener Neustadt.

Each year, the Ferry Porsche Prize is awarded to successful graduates of the Baden-Württemberg Mathematics / Physics or Mathematics / Technology ( at technical high schools and general education ). In 2007 in Zell am See the Ferry Porsche Congress Center, which is named after him, completed.
