Ferdinand Carré

Ferdinand Philippe Carré ( born March 11, 1824 in Moislains, Somme, † 11 January, 1900 in Pommeuse, Seine- et- Marne) was a French engineer who is known for his work in the refrigeration industry.

Life

His brother Edmond Carré had in 1850 designed a refrigerator with water and sulfuric acid. Developed in 1859 Ferdinand Carré then a compression chiller, based on ammonia, the hourly produced 200 kg of ice and was exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1862.

Between 1868 and 1890 he developed Electrostatic generators, the Carré machine.
