Ferdinand Justi

Ferdinand Justi ( born June 2, 1837 in Marburg, † February 17, 1907 ) was a German Orientalist, who was also known as a performer and researcher rural- rural culture in Hesse in the late 19th century.

Life

Justi studied linguistics at the University of Marburg and the Georg-August -Universität Göttingen. In 1861 he completed his habilitation in Marburg, where he was an associate in 1865 and 1869 full professor of comparative grammar and philology Germanistic. 1887/88 he served as rector.

In addition to his academic work, he studied meticulously the life of the Hessian population in the last third of the 19th century, especially in the near and far from Marburg, wrote on his observations and held her in countless sketches and watercolors. His main motifs included buildings, furnishings, farm equipment and especially Hinterländer costumes with their color, their intricacies and the accessories.
