Ferenc Karinthy

Ferenc Karinthy ( born June 2, 1921 in Budapest, † February 29, 1992 ) was a Hungarian writer.

Biography

Karinthy was born in 1921 as son of the writer Frigyes Karinthy in Budapest. He studied between 1941 and 1945 Hungarian, Italian and English literature and linguistics at the Pázmány Péter University in Budapest and wrote at this time his first novel, " Don Juan éjszakája ". In 1947 he traveled with scholarships to France, Switzerland and Italy. 1949 and 1950, he was then the author of the National Theatre. From 1951 he was a member of the journals Szabad Nép and Magyar Nemzet, 1953, he was author of the theater Madách in Budapest and worked there until 1956.

Between 1957 and 1960 he devoted himself to translations of Machiavelli and Molière, as well as works of Greek, English, Italian and German authors. From 1965 he worked as a writer at the theaters of Miskolc, Szeged et Debrecen, where he was employed until 1975.
