The IX. District of the Hungarian capital Budapest, which is also called Ferencvaros ( German Franz Franz city or suburb ), located on the east bank of the Danube in the former city of Pest.

History

The district was created in the 18th century as a suburb of the ancient city of Pest and got its name after the enthronement of Francis Joseph Charles Francis II, the last emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1792. The IX. District lies between the V. district of Budapest ( city center ) to the east, the District VIII ( Józsefváros ) in the north, the Tenth District ( Kőbánya ), XIX. District ( Kispest ) and XX. District ( Pesterzsébet ) in the east, the XXI. District ( Csepel ) in the south and the Danube River in the west. The district is supplied as part of the Great Ring road ( Grand Boulevard ) Ferenc krt, over the tram lines 4 and 6 of the Budapest Transport Company BKV Zrt. perform with the world's highest ridership. The former main and arterial road through the district is Ráday street, now a nightlife area with many restaurants and pubs. Also in the district are located at Kalvin tér the most famous Calvinist church and near the Danube on Vámház krt the Great Market Hall and the Corvinus University. Since November 2005, the Goethe -Institut Budapest can be found here.

Sports

The district is home to the club Ferencvárosi Torna Club, is the football department of a successful and well-known in Hungary.
