Fernando Carreño

Fernando Carreño (born 15 January 1979) is an Uruguayan football player.

Association

Carreño began his career at River Plate. From there he moved to Peñarol in 1999, where he also completed his first professional assignments. In 2001 he joined the first time abroad to Qingdau Yizhong Yizhong in China. He then returned to the home and the Torneo Clausura played again in 2001 for Peñarol. He subsequently held positions at Villa Española, the Spanish club CD Logroñés and the Uruguayan club Sud América. In 2004 he went to Switzerland to Young Boys Bern and then to FC Aarau. After the contract in Switzerland was not extended Carreño joined by Austria and signed a contract with SC Rheindorf Altach, whom he left in the summer of 2009. He then returned to his homeland and signed with Uruguayan first division Cerro a contract. For the Montevideaner he graduated from in the season 2009/10, however, only one game in the Primera División. Carreño is strong in the air and has leadership qualities. He also has an Italian passport.

National

Fernando Carreño was part of the Uruguayan banns at the U -20 South American Championship 1997 in Chile. He also was a member of the Uruguayan national junior team that participated at the 1999 U-20 South American Championship in Argentina and took second place. He took the Uruguayan U-20 national team in addition to the U-20 World Cup Nigeria 1999 in part, in which the Celeste reached the 4th place. Among his local players included, among others Diego Forlan, Diego Pérez and Ernesto Chevantón.

He completed a total of 52 caps for the U17 to U23 national teams of Uruguay.
