Fernando de Rojas

Fernando de Rojas (* 1461-1476 in La Puebla de Montalbán, Toledo today, † 1541 ) was a Spanish jurist and writer of the late Middle Ages.

He was born 1461-1476 in La Puebla de Montalbán (Toledo). 1488 Rojas went to Salamanca, where he studied law, Latin, philosophy and other subjects. Since 1507 he lived in Talavera, where he earned his living as a lawyer. In 1538 he became mayor of the city. The family of Rojas was originally Jewish, probably his grandfather converted to Christianity. In Talavera he also met his future wife Leonor de Montalbán Alvárez know, who also came from a converted family. Being a writer is only the tragicomedy La Celestina is known about him, which was founded in 1499 for the first time, under the name of " Comedia de Calisto y melibea " published.
