Fernando Fernán Gómez

Fernando Fernán Gómez ( born August 28, 1921 in Lima, Peru, † 21 November 2007 in Madrid) was a Spanish actor and director.

Life

Fernán Gómez was the son of the Spanish actress Carola Fernán Gómez. He lived until the age of three in Peru and Argentina. Then his mother came with him back to Spain. He has performed during his studies at the Faculty of Arts in Madrid in amateur theater groups. In 1938 he made ​​his debut in the professional theater company of Laura pinillos, 1940 he appeared at the Madrid Teatro de la Comedia. He had in 1943. Fernán Gómez initially played mostly comic role types, but also in films by Juan Antonio Bardem and Luis García Berlanga his film debut. His debut as a director came in 1959.

Only in the 1970s, he also received role offers outside the comic compartment and developed into one of the most recognized character actors of Spain, as in Carlos Saura's Anna and the Wolves (1972). Even as a writer, he was successful, he wrote numerous plays, novels, short stories, screenplays and an opera libretto.

It was not until the late 1970s, the Argentine took a Spanish citizen. Fernán Gómez was later married to Spanish actress María Dolores Pradera with Emma Cohen. His daughter is the actress Helena Fernán Gómez.

Awards

In his career, he won four times the Spanish Goya Film Awards. Twice he won a Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 1977 and at the Berlinale 1985. The International Film Festival Berlin then in 2005 honored him with the Honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement. From 30 January 2000 until his death he was a member of the Real Academia Española, where he held the seat for the letter B.
